EFHC mobilizes resources through foundation grants, corporate philanthropy and individual contributions, allocating this support in 3 areas of focus which are each in their own way investments in human capital:

  1. providing financial support through the Teacher of the Month program and with specialized instructional services for hundreds of public school classroom teachers which enhance skills, strengthen capacity and measurably scale results;
  2. supporting a broad network of quality after-school service providers, after-school programs and academic competitions (to keep children safe and lengthen the time students spend in learning environments after the end of the traditional school day), exposing students to workforce challenges and opportunities directly connected to what it is they study academically in school thereby mentoring and motivating students to stay in school and essentially to take control of their destiny;
  3. forming broad, responsive community Alliances uniting disparate regional non-profits, institutions of higher learning and government agencies, whose goals in specific fields are more similar than dissimilar; who, if brought into a synergistic relationship by an effective convener can partly as a result of the good offices and auspices of the convener, be more effectively enabled to organize, leverage and promote lasting success and achievable results that are scalable.
EFHC is a non-profit entity but it is does not behave like like non-profit organizations.  For instance, as a Foundation, it is not about growing itself, hiring multiple staff or tooting its own horn (it does not have a horn to toot).  It is totally focused on its mission.
EFHC believes tenacious leadership, philanthropy, sound business principles and interactive/advanced digital technology can solve challenges confronting large, urban public school systems and meet needs of teachers who desire nothing as much as to be successful in the classroom. EFHC’s three areas of focus are about transformational change on a large scale, a step-by-step, long-term proposition it is committed to accomplish through consistent effort over the next 15 years.
