Why is the Foundation necessary (why do we need more than our local school board?)
The Education Foundation of Harris County acts in an effective, relatively unmediated manner to provide teachers and students from throughout our region with access to proven successful initiatives. Donors may be active as leaders and as volunteers -donors may partner with the Foundation on bold, new initiatives, i.e. the EcoBot Challenge resulted from a vision of a small group of business leaders in Harris County whose dream led to the creation of an exceptional, award-winning program. The Foundation innovates within the existing system.
If the educational system isn't broken beyond repair, then what's the problem?
The fact that our kids' competitors are across the oceans rather than across the aisle means that bold innovations must be taken in order to effectively secure our regions' economic prominence for the future. The Education Foundation undertakes initiatives in partnership with leaders in business and industry, from small businesses seeking to contribute where their employees' children study to large corporations with offices in multiple cities who seek to involve employees as volunteers and affect thousands of students. We aim to advantage our kids - investing in their futures is a great investment in yours!
How can a corporate entity learn more without committing?
We are delighted to meet with business leaders and plan how to bring after-school programs into the orbit of what it is kids can aspire to do in the workplace of the future - showing them how education puts them in the driver's seat!
